What you need to know

Welcome to Bikram Hot Yoga Vancouver!

Whether you have never practiced yoga before or have simply been away for a while we hope you find all of the information you need right here to begin your life changing journey.

ATTENDING YOUR FIRST CLASS: Choose the class time that you want to attend and arrive 20 minutes before class starts. We will have you fill out a registration form and get you set-up to take your first class.  Please be sure to let the teacher know about any injuries or special physical circumstances.

60 MINUTE OR 90 MINUTE CLASS TO START?  While we do recommend that a first-time student of hot yoga start with a 90-minute class, beginners are welcome to all our classes. The 90-minute class moves at a slower, more digestible pace that will help ease you in to practicing yoga in a heated room.

** New students under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian sign their waiver form.

WHAT TO WEAR: Wear something you will be comfortable stretching and sweating in.  Try to avoid cotton t-shirts or sweatpants as they will likely be too warm.  Be sure to bring a change of clothes for afterward.

WHAT TO BRING: Bring a bottle for water, big towel and a yoga mat.

MATS & TOWELS: We rent and sell yoga mats and towels. Yoga mat and towel rentals are $2.00 apiece.  If you bring your own towel please ensure it is a ‘shower’ size. No hand towels required.

WATER: Hydrate well before class by drinking plenty of fluids the day before and leading up to class.  We sell bottles of water at the studio as well as Coconut water and electrolyte replacements!

FOOD: Avoid eating anything heavy for 2-3 hours prior to taking class. Yoga is best practiced on an empty stomach but having some light snacks is okay (e.g. banana).

CONGRATULATIONS! You have taken the first step towards living your best life through the practice of Bikram Yoga.

So you made it through class, now what!?

COME BACK AS SOON AS POSSIBLE:  Within 24 hours is best.  You will quickly overcome the challenge of the heated room and get to know the postures.  You will also start to notice the benefits almost immediately.  Stick with the yoga even though the postures and heat may be difficult in the beginning, it gets better!

STIFFNESS OR SORENESS: Both are very normal.  The best thing for you is to get back into the hot room.  Your body is waking up and coming alive and you want to keep the process going!

TIRED OR ENERGETIC:  You might feel very tired after class. This is absolutely normal and a good sign that your body is cleansing. Your energy levels will be restored to normal within several classes. You might find yourself feeling extremely energetic and experience difficulty sleeping. Don’t worry–this is a good sign that the yoga is truly filling you up with energy. You don’t have insomnia. You just have more time to do the things you enjoy.

HEADACHE, NAUSEOUS, DIZZY:  If you experience any or all of these most likely you are dehydrated.  Drink lots of water and replenish your electrolytes after class and before you return to class.
